First-time visitors to the island are often surprised by its versatility, as Paros presents them with discoveries both quintessentially Greek and exclusive in nature. While the island’s quaint villages, local wineries, and stunning beaches impress and inspire, opportunities to shop and windsurf, excite and invigorate. Additionally, the island’s culinary contributions are rather distinct and, thus, unavoidable. Luckily, to experience the local gastronomy, all you have to do is step inside one of the best restaurants in Paros.

Situated in the southwestern village of Aliki, this iconic taverna has been a part of the island’s culinary legacy since 1964. With tables on a tiny sandy beach and a patio extending out into the water, Balcony boasts the freshest seafood, typically caught by the owner on the same day.

Although the menu has several meaty and vegetarian delights, the seafood here is unmissable. Try the Greek classics like grilled octopus, fried anchovies, seafood risotto, and stuffed calamari, and pair them with ouzo or a glass of local wine. Even though very popular among tourists, prices at Balcony are pocket-friendly with large portion sizes. Peak summer is when the restaurant gets bustling. So, expect delays and the occasional mixup in the otherwise friendly service.

Taverna Glafkos

From the end of the narrow alley to the water, tables line up, accommodating hungry diners eager to taste delicious preparations typical of Greek cuisine. Near the port in Naoussa, Taverna Glafkos creates a laidback vibe with its ocean view seating and a menu that’s nostalgic and tasteful.

The food is fresh and doesn’t deviate much from traditional flavors. You’ll find all the classics here. There’s seafood saganaki and fried calamari as well as shrimp toast and the house specialty, squid ink risotto. Even though hidden in the back, the restaurant is a favorite during lunch and dinner. Thus, you’ll be better off making a reservation than trying to get a table as a walk-in.

Soso

It takes years for a restaurant to reach legendary status, and Soso has been there and done that. Travelers on the lookout for the best places to eat in Paros are bound to come across a mention or two of Soso. With tables in the alleyway, the taverna exudes an amorous appeal, making it an excellent place for a date. Even though you’ll sit amidst the pitter-patter of several diners, it’s still easy to get lost in your own world here. The food often acting as the perfect aphrodisiac.

Situated on a quiet street in Naoussa, Soso Restaurant first opened its doors in 2013. It is primarily known for its homemade Greek food. The family-run establishment has a limited seasonal menu. A few regular favorites besides seafood include lamb shank, moussaka, and veal liver with onion. The service at Soso is particularly amicable. Of course, the complimentary dessert at the end is the cherry on top of a memorable dinner.

Hellas

The capital, Parikia, is home to a few of the best restaurants in Paros. Among them is Hellas, a quaint little taverna near the port that stays open from morning till late at night. The family-run eatery has been gaining popularity since its opening in 2004. Today, it’s a prime spot that attracts diners with its mix-and-match shabby decor and delicious Greek fare with a hint of ingenuity.

Owners George and Angelique are incredibly welcoming, and their love for good food reflects in the menu. Their Greek tapas is a lovely way to sample the classics in small portions. At the same time, the dish Livadia consists of pork gyros, chicken gyros, beef souvlaki, lamb souvlaki, pork fillet, pita bread, fries, and salad. It’s a meal enough for four! Other must-tries include fusion dishes like gyros tacos and pizza gyros.

Halaris Fish Tavern

Beach hunters visiting the island often enjoy the shoreline of Pisa Livadi, a sweet little village on the east coast. Gourmands head over here to dine at Halaris, a lesser-known yet among the best seafood restaurants in Paros. One of several fish tavernas along the port, Halaris stands out for its friendly service and fresh seafood. Open for lunch and dinner, it does, however, have vegetarian and meat options as well.

Owned and operated by couple Marianna and Antonis since 2004, the taverna is a well-oiled family affair. While Marianna’s magic hands add flavor to the dishes, Antonis heads out to the sea daily to catch fish for their patrons. The restaurant has a lovely waterfront location and quite a few homemade recipes on the menu. When eating here, go with the monkfish salad, char-grilled octopus, saganaki shrimp, lobster pasta, and the fish of the day.

Ela Paros

A hidden gem that regular visitors are slowly starting to discover, Ela is ideal for epicures who don’t mind a hint of experimentation with food. Amalgamating Greek and Israeli cuisine, the alfresco taverna is one of the few places to eat in Paros, showcasing the island’s varied culinary landscape.

While the recipes might have some international flavors, Ela Paros only uses local ingredients. As a result, the menu is seasonal, often changing every week. Their watermelon gazpacho, tuna sashimi, shrimp falafel, and fish arayes are some dishes not to miss. Moreover, Ela has arguably the most extensive wine list on the island. On the menu are bottles sourced from Greek and Mediterranean vineyards. While dining, let the restaurant’s ever-present owner or sommelier decide on the wine pairing, and you won’t be disappointed.
