Starting on June 5th, American Airlines has announced that it will have three daily (direct) flights to Greece from New York and from Chicago. Additionally, flights between Philadelphia to Athens will begin on August 18. Once you’ve touched down in Athens, head to one of the three main ports in order to board a ferry and explore all that the Greek islands have to offer. Here’s how to get there.
From Athens airport to Piraeus port, you have three modes of transportation to choose from, a public bus, a metro line, and a taxi. Taking a taxi is the fastest and most convenient option, but costs 54-70€. The bus costs only 6€ but takes over an hour. The final transfer option is the metro. This mode of transport costs 10€ one-way and takes around 85 minutes to reach Piraeus port.
To get from the Athens airport to the port of Rafina, you can take a bus or taxi. The fastest and most expensive option is a taxi. The journey will take around 20 minutes, and will cost approximately 38€ during the day and 54€ at night. The other option is the public bus. This is the cheapest mode of transportation as it only costs 3€ for a one-way ticket.
There is no direct bus line to the port of Lavrio from Athens airport. However, the KTEL bus line runs from the airport until 22:00, and you can change buses at the Markopoulo stop to board a bus that will reach the Lavrio ferry terminal. Tickets cost 4€ and the journey will take around 60 minutes.
