Ethnofest – The Athens International Ethnographic Film Festival is back for its 13th edition with documentaries from around the world that highlight the human experience. Both in person and online throughout Greece, this year Ethnofest will embrace the number thirteen and all its various cultural connotations.
Onassis Stegi is partnering with the Athens Conservatoire to bring back an exciting festival called Tectonics. December 2 – 4 there will be tons of live events for every type of music lover. Everything from classical orchestra to electronic music, installations and so much more will be available to enjoy.
The Map of Flavours event in Thessaloniki is Northern Greece’s largest wine experience. Happening at the city’s Helexpo, it’s a place for tasting wines of course, but also for meeting people and measuring market trends. For two full days, there will be 150+ vineyards and estates from Greece as well as many wine importers who will personally present their wines and spirits. In total, there will be more than 1,500 red, rosé and white, still and sparkling, dry, semi-dry, and sweet wines available at the 2022 edition of Map of Flavours.
The Feast of St. Nicholas (or Saint Nicholas day) is on December 6th and it honors the patron saint of sailors. Decorated boats are a traditional holiday symbol in Greece. It’s typical for families to decorate a ship at their house in order to ensure their beloved sailor would make it home safely, and in time for Christmas.
From Saturday, November 26 until January 6, The Christmas Factory at the Athens Technopolis will open its doors. This year’s celebration will involve lots of delicious food as well as musical moments and theatrical performances. The Municipality of Heraklion is preparing once again for the Christmas Castle and market to return to the heart of the city. This festive event promises to be entertaining for the whole family with numerous cultural, visual, and educational activities and games as well as shopping, food, and concerts.
A large Christmas fun park is once again coming to Thessaloniki for the holidays. Astercosmos will open on December 10th and the 8 euro entry fee includes access to two ice rinks, many games, magic shows, performances, and so much more.
On December 11 at the Apollon Theater on the island of Syros, the Children and Youth Choir of the Cyclades Orchestra will be performing Christmas hymns and carols. The event will last two hours, starting at 20:00. Ticket prices range between 5 and 8 euros and can be purchased here. The proceeds will be used to support the activities of the choir and to cover their concert costs.
Considered the protector of Corfu, the holy day of Saint Spyridon is celebrated annually. The night before tons of locals spend time making loukoumades, their traditional doughnuts. These delicious balls of dough can be soaked in honey or chocolate or other flavorful toppings.
