Vinterjazz is a music festival that takes place all over Denmark each year in February spanning three weeks and featuring more than 600 concerts across the country, including the historic jazz capital of Copenhagen. Since 1960, the Båtmässan boat show in Gothenburg has taken place to encourage people to start getting back out on the water during winter. Daily seminars will be held throughout the duration of the show and tons of professionals and companies come to exhibit. Every year, thousands of people attend the Båtmässan from the western part of Sweden.
Carnival in Greece is called ‘Apokries’ and according to the Greek Orthodox calendar, it takes place three weeks before Lent Monday. There are costumes, parties, feasts, and lots of dancing. Large parades happen all around the country, specifically in places like Patras in the Peloponnese region, Rethymno in Crete, and the entire Ionian island of Corfu. In recent years the Cycladic island of Naxos has also been putting on quite the show. The exact dates vary every year but nevertheless, Apokries always comes to an end seven weeks before Greek Easter.
The Santa Eulàlia festivities are a celebration of culture and tradition in Barcelona. Also known as ‘La Laia’, this has become the biggest winter festival in the city. Among the various events taking place, there will be a procession, a parade, human towers, dancing, and a fire run. The 16th edition of the Tallinn Winter Festival is arriving this month and the program consists of chamber music as well as musical pieces for orchestras and choirs. The various performances will be happening at amazing places around Estonia’s capital city, such as the Estonia Concert Hall and the Tallinn Town Hall. These spaces will host numerous Estonian master soloists as well as foreign guests from Italy and South Korea. Notably, this year’s Tallinn Winter Festival will be honoring maestro Jaan Rääts.
The Fête du Citron (or Lemon Festival in English) is a unique event in France that attracts over 200,000 visitors every year. There will be parades full of animated floats made entirely out of citrus fruits and there is going to be a Crafts Fair and Festival of Orchards. Book a ferry trip to Nice and then it’s only 40 minutes from there over to Menton for this incredible show.
