Last month we didn’t publish a January version of this article since most events were cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions or bad weather. Fortunately, there seem to be some fun things happening around Greece during the month of February. Here are some of the most exciting upcoming events.
At the Mediterranean Exhibition Center, located near the Athens International Airport, Expotrof is being held to promote high-quality Greek products for professionals in the premium food and beverage industry as well as just lovers of fine food.
During January, there was a group exhibition of 25 visual artists (focused on places & landscapes of the real, the invisible, and the desired) which took place at Chili Art Gallery in Athens. The exhibition included paintings, drawings, engraving, photography, collage, and light constructions. Now, in a collaboration with the Art Curator Paris Capralos, ARTgrID displays all these pieces online as well.
A documentary called Cries for Help attempts to draw our attention to the difficulties of our fellow human beings who experience situations of misery and social exclusion. Organized by the Hellenic American Union Prisma Center for Development Studies, this audiovisual material is comprised of 20 interviews that were conducted in four different countries (Greece, Italy, Poland, and Romania). During the screening, the testimonies are accompanied by the work of contemporary Greek artists.
HORECA is an exhibition that shapes the development of the hotel and catering industry in Greece. This year there will be more than 500 vendors attending, making it one of the largest exhibition events in the country. The focus for 2022 will be contributing to the restart and recovery of the hospitality industry. It’s definitely a significant meeting point for professionals and supply companies.
The Historical Museum of Crete, located in Heraklion is collaborating with the Social Space of the Kalokairinos Institutions to hold an exhibition called ‘The New Years Of the World’. It is an anthropological endeavor about 2022, with the participation of refugees and immigrants in order to offer a cultural overview of festive traditions and symbolism. The event is free however the donation of packaged food and groceries is encouraged.
This photography exhibition at the Chalkos Gallery in Thessaloniki is comprised of 84 photographs taken by four journalists, Babis Giannakidis, Lazaros Theodorakidis, Christos Karagiannopoulos, and Giannis Kessopoulos. It focuses on daily life in Greece’s second-largest city, seen from different perspectives. Proceeds from the sale of these photos will be used to support a municipal nursery.
The Athens Dance Festival is back for its sixth year, guaranteed to amaze and impress. The acts are split into categories – couples, teams, and solo dancers. Renowned companies from Europe and America are known for coming to Athens in order to participate. It’s a really fun event for both professionals and amateur dancers to enjoy.
The Athens International Jewellery Show attracts professionals working in the jewelry and watches field. It is undoubtedly the most important annual meeting for gold/silversmiths in Greece. This year will be the 34th iteration of this event.
The International Wine Fair will showcase tons of wine and spirits as well as beer and food processing technology. It will take place at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition and Congress Center and is an important event for Greece’s Food & Beverage industry.
This year, the 45th Athens Health Run Half Marathon (21.1km) will be held in the southern suburbs of Athens at Agios Kosmas National Sports Center. Interestingly, most of the participating runners for this event come from abroad.
