Mastic, the gold of Chios!

In the south of the island, there are some villages that the locals call Mastichochoria. There is an abundance of mastic trees or otherwise known as schinos. It is the tree that produces the mastic of Chios. So from this tree, mastic is made into liqueur, gum, ouzo, liquor and a whole lot more. It is the gold of the island. It is the product that makes Chios known all over the world. A product of protected designation of origin and packed with nutrients. The “precious tear” produces not only edibles but also cosmetics.

Spoon sweets: Flavors of Chios that make you dream!

If you have the pleasure of having a grandmother, then in her cupboards there is a jar of spoon sweets. 60% are from Chios as well. The famous Korakis spoon sweets (and not only) are the best selling sweets in Greece and not without reason. Cherry, bergamot, pistachio and several others. All with excellent raw material, all with excellent taste. Look for them and put them in your locker. A spoonful of these sweets, on a thick slice of bread with vitamins, is simply a dream! A dream taken from blessed Chios!

Mandarins, oranges and Kampos juices!

Chios is also called Myrivolos and this is because its campos smells like musk. The most juicy mandarins for juice are produced in the plain. If you have tasted the juice called “Kampos Chios” you will agree. If not, look for this pack for an even cooler experience!

Chios Beer, Chios Mastelo and Chios Suma, some more gems!

The list of products produced on the island is endless. Flavours of Chios and products made with care, make the island a destination worth discovering for its gastronomy.

Find Chios Beer for beautiful afternoon balconies. It is also produced in Kampos, from fine varieties of malt and whole hops. It is fermented and matured in small quantities, without preservatives or additives and has a unique taste.

The tsipouro from Chios with the rich taste! It is a distillate of figs. Figs from Chios collected in August and spread out in the sun. After drying they will be put in barrels with water and yeast. The distillation process takes place in the autumn and the result is Souma Chios! A bottle of this unique spirit should be put in your cupboards.

I’ll close the list with the soft cheese Mastelo – the cheese that deserves to star on your Sunday tables! It took its name (mastelo) from the wooden bucket used by the island’s cheese makers to collect milk. You can find this soft cheese everywhere in big cities and you are sure to love it right away!
