Mark your calendars! There are lots of fun things happening around Greece during the month of June. Here are some of the most exciting upcoming events.
The Athens Epidaurus Festival is one of the oldest continuously running festivals in Europe. For 67 years, this event has welcomed great music, dance, and theatre artists in collaboration with the most prestigious Greek and international organizations. Until 2005 the festival had been held exclusively at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. However, in 2006 five brand-new theatre stages were launched at the Peiraios 260 industrial venue in Athens which has since emerged as an important springboard for contemporary art. Other artistic productions and site-specific performances will be presented in other spaces throughout the duration of the festival as well.
An international festival dedicated to the landmark monuments of Thessaloniki will take place from June 3 – 5. Organized by the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization and in its sixth year, the Thessaloniki International Monument Festival aims to highlight eight historic sites through a number of events including concerts, theater performances, and art events. As part of the festival, on June 5 the city will host the Yedi Kule Conquest, which is a race featuring a specially designed route that includes eight monuments (six of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites).
The International Theater Festival in Milos will host its fourth edition from May 21 until June 12. The theme is ‘Care & Rehabilitation’. Original performances will be put on that are developed for, and together with the local community in the enchanting setting of the Ancient Theater of Milos, as well as a few other areas around the island. Lovers of modern creation, participatory theater, and incomparable landscapes should definitely attend this event.
The Municipality of the island of Alonissos is organizing the Alonissos Challenge 2022 which will take place on Sunday, June 12th. The purpose of the event is to attract runners and athletes from all over Greece and abroad, and to experience the beauty of Alonissos by either running or walking on the different paths. Three races will take place – one will be 20km, one race will be 10km and lastly, one will be 2km specifically for children.
For four consecutive days this month, you can visit the metro station of Syntagma in downtown Athens to get a truly authentic taste of Chios island. There will be a large event with many local and traditional products from Chios that are available for tasting and buying.
This event takes place at OAKA stadium in the northern Athens neighborhood of Marousi. It consists of thousands of people coming together to dance to DJs, watch live musical acts, and have a great time – all while getting coated in colour. For four consecutive days this month, there will be tons of dancing, music, and local culture being celebrated on the Cycladic island of Syros. The Festival of Traditional Dances is open to anyone over the age of six.
