Ferryscanner is moving in a new direction, offering more options than ever for ferry passengers wanting to explore the world.
Customers can now access a totally new feature of our website, as we become a hybrid between a metasearch engine and an online travel agency.
More ferry company and route options will be visible, even if we don’t offer the tickets directly. In these cases, you can learn all the information about the trip and if you decide you want to book it, you will be redirected to the company’s official website.
The goal is to facilitate all ferry trips for people, offering more choices with just one click. As a ferry ticket search and booking engine, we want to emphasize both sides of the business. Helping travellers complete their trip searches more efficiently helps the ferry industry as a whole.
Here’s how it works:
Head to the Ferryscanner website and enter your search criteria.
The results page will open showing the available routes for the selected dates. Wherever you see an orange exclamation mark icon, it means this company can’t be booked via Ferryscanner directly.
You can hover over the icon to be sure.
By clicking Details you will get a more complete picture of the itinerary.
If you select this trip, a pop-up will appear explaining that you need to be redirected. If you would like to continue with the booking, simply press Proceed.
Then, you will be taken to the ferry company’s website, where you can complete the booking of your trip. Ferryscanner in this case is acting simply as the search engine. We want to help make your travel as easy as ever by providing as many choices as possible.
Another aspect of this new feature is that customers can see combined search results. Meaning, one of the routes is bookable directly on the Ferryscanner website, while the other one (or more if you’re island hopping!) needs redirecting to an external page. In this case, the results will again be distinguished by the exclamation point icon, and a pop-up will confirm if you wish to proceed to the ferry company’s official site.
Here is an example:
To avoid confusion, the Ferryscanner booking page will show every leg of the trip. However as you can see in the image below, the routes that can’t be booked directly will be faded, and not clickable.
