This upcoming summer the Greek capital is expected to have a new metro route (part of Line 3) going from Athens International Airport to Piraeus port that will only take 55 minutes. For visitors landing in Athens and trying to catch a ferry, this will make things much easier.
Currently, metro construction work is being done 20 meters below sea level. Within the next year (and specifically during the summer), the Maniatika station and the Dimotiko Theatro station will open. A new museum is also being created to house the artifacts found in the ancient water supply system underneath Piraeus.
These new stations will increase the passenger capacity in the metro system and also reduce the traffic of cars on the road. In turn, it will dramatically reduce the city’s carbon emissions.
