September is here for good and autumn is right in front of us, but as genuine Greeks, we continue to wish each other a happy summer. What better way to make our wish come true than a road trip to Peloponnese with our SUP?
For those of you who have heard of it but aren’t sure what it is, over the past few years, SUP has become a water sports trend. It’s one that requires few skills and a lot of love for the sea. More specifically, grab a big surfboard, an oar, and some patience and you will be good to go.
So, here we are, to let you know where you can enjoy your SUP the most!
First stop, Voidokilia
We know that you know this one, but we can’t help but mention it. The unique beach of Voidokilia is located on the first ‘foot’ and is the ultimate must when taking the road to Peloponnese to enjoy your sup. With powder-like sand, clear blue water, and a landscape that you can stare at for hours, in Voidokilia, you might just forget to get out of the sea. Bonus? If you use your SUP, you can explore every corner and inch of this beauty without having to swim.
Second stop, Limeni
You will find Limeni on the middle ‘foot’ of the Peloponnese, near Areopoli, just a few kilometers after Stoupa. Don’t let its name fool you. It’s nothing like a regular “Limani” (port). Whether you prefer the mountain or the sea (probably the second one if you are still reading this article), the picturesque beauty, the stone mountain houses, and the crystal-clear sea will definitely win you over. One other thing is for sure: Whichever direction you follow with your SUP, you will discover a well-hidden natural beauty that will fascinate you. Are you ready yet?
Third stop, Gythio
In Gythio you will find many, many beaches, ready to welcome you and your SUP board. We will suggest one in particular: the Mavrovounio. Yes, it is time to add it to your list. When travelling towards the middle ‘foot’ of the Peloponnese, in Lakoniki Mani, you will spot an incredible beach, with a 4-kilometer sandy beach, for every taste. Do you prefer an organized beach or a more raw, natural one? Well, here, you can have both! The only thing you have to do is use Ferryscanner and book your ferry tickets!
Fourth stop, Fokianos
Do you prefer wild nature and the great unknown? Then, our advice to you is to scratch everything you just read and pay attention to this part. In the last ‘foot’ of the Peloponnese, you will discover Fokianos, another well-hidden beach with pure white pebbles, and all-green slopes that lead down to the sea. It will have the calmness you have been looking for (except for the two boats carrying fresh fish for the small tavern where you will eat after your SUP).
These must-visit beaches are ready to take their place in your memories and your SUP destination list. Oh, and one last thing – if you are one of the extremely daring ones, then don’t hesitate to visit the Kaladi beach in Kythira. There’s a mysterious cave just waiting to be explored.
