Located in the northeastern part of Morocco, the city of Nandor is an often overlooked destination. But you don’t want to miss this coastal gem with its vibrant atmosphere and range of beaches. From tucked-away treasures to city delights, here are the best beaches in Nador you should visit during your Moroccan adventure.
Nador is a Moroccan city with palm-lined boulevards and saltwater lagoons. It’s separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a large-scale lagoon called Sebkha Bou Areq Areq. You can arrive in the city via aeroplane at the Nador International Airport, via car from another Moroccan city or by boat, which you can book with Ferryscanner.
This peaceful beach might not be one of the main spots in the city, but it’s a hidden paradise where you can take a dip in crystal clear waters. There are often few people here, meaning you can avoid overcrowding while catching some rays. When you’re not soaking up the sun, grab a bite at the nearby restaurant, Kamkoum el Baz. It’s a popular local spot offering a range of fish.
Also known as Bocana Beach, Plage de Boquerones lies on the small piece of land separating Nador’s lagoon from the Mediterranean. Relax on the soft sands while admiring the beautiful natural rock formations. It’s also a popular beach with families, thanks to its sheltered position and gentle slope leading to its calm waters.
One of the most visited beaches in Nador, Playa de los Carabos has fine golden sands and delightful turquoise water where you can take a dip after sunning yourself. Its convenient location to Melilla means it gets crowded during the high seasons. There is also a selection of coffee shops and restaurants behind the beach where you can grab a bite or a drink.
This picturesque beach in Bades will have you wondering whether to take a few snaps or go for a splash. Fortunately, you can do both. The views on offer include a cliffside location with quaint houses, while the turquoise water is refreshing in the summer. There’s no sand at Padis Beach, however. Instead, it’s filled with small pebbles, making it a rocky beach experience.
Plage d’El Kallat sits on the opposite side of the peninsula to Nador. Fine sand stretching several hundred metres awaits you, and there are plenty of beach activities, including water sports rentals. You’ll also find a few restaurants if you get peckish during your beach visit.
Mar Chica is the largest salt lagoon in Morocco and is described as the centrepiece of Nador. There are protected wetlands in Oued Moulouya and Kariat Arekam by the Moulouya River. Here, you’ll find a range of animals, from flamingos to kingfishers and numerous other bird species. There are also several spots where you can relax on the soft sands before going for a swim.
Enjoy a beach holiday to remember in Nador, where there’s a wide variety of sand and pebble beaches for you to unwind. Then take a dip in the pristine waters before grabbing a bite at a local cafe or restaurant. If you consider yourself somewhat of a beach bum, then Nador should be on your list of places to visit.
