What happens if my ferry is delayed or cancelled?

Ferry delays and cancellations are rare but can happen due to unavoidable circumstances such as technical issues, adverse weather conditions, or other extreme and unpredictable events. In these cases, ferry companies are not required to offer additional compensation or benefits. However, if your departure is canceled or significantly delayed, you should be provided with either an alternative travel option or a full refund of your ticket. If a delay or cancellation occurs, we will notify you as soon as we receive updates from the ferry operator and help you find the best alternative route for your travel plans. However, in rare instances, the ferry company may fail to inform us of schedule changes in time. If this happens, you might receive direct communication from the ferry company via email or SMS, provided your contact details are correct. This is particularly common with last-minute changes. We understand how frustrating these situations can be, and we're fully committed to finding the most convenient solution for you. If your ferry is canceled by the company and you have not used your tickets, you are eligible for a full refund. Alternatively, the ferry company may offer a replacement trip to the same destination at no extra cost. If the alternative does not suit your plans, we can request a full refund on your behalf. If your ferry is delayed, we will file a claim with the ferry company based on the length of the delay. Rest assured, our team will do everything possible to assist you and make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Can I get a refund if I decide to cancel my trip?

Most ferry companies offer full refunds for ticket cancellations made well in advance. On the Ferryscanner website, you can check the free cancellation period during the booking process. If you cancel within this timeframe, no service fees will apply. However, some tickets may be partially refundable or non-refundable, depending on the ferry company’s policy. With the new ‘Manage My Booking’ feature, you can cancel tickets for most ferry companies directly on our website by accessing your dashboard, selecting the tickets you want to cancel, and following the on-screen instructions. Many ferry companies also offer the option to convert your booking into an Open Dated Ticket, valid for a specified period (usually up to one year). However, once converted, these tickets become non-refundable. For full details, refer to the cancellation and amendment policy of the ferry company you’re traveling with.
