What documentation do I need when driving abroad?

When driving abroad, you must carry the following documents at all times:
  • A valid passport or ID card
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Vehicle registration document (V5c)
  • Motor insurance certificate
  • Letter of authorization (if the vehicle is registered in someone else’s name, such as a company car)

While not mandatory, it is highly recommended to carry:

  • Warning triangle
  • Reflective jacket
  • Headlamp
  • Spare headlamp bulbs
  • First aid kit
  • Fire extinguisher
Additionally, seat belts must be worn by all passengers, and children under 12 years old are not permitted to sit in the front seat.
