About LeShuttle
LeShuttle, part of the Getlink Group, has been providing vehicle transport through the Channel Tunnel for over three decades. Formerly known as Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, it has established itself as a leading service for private and commercial vehicles travelling between the UK and France. LeShuttle operates a unique rail system exclusively for vehicles, including cars, motorbikes, campervans, coaches, and freight.
Beyond transportation, LeShuttle is recognised for its commitment to sustainable travel. The company continuously invests in reducing its environmental footprint, using mostly renewable electricity, supporting electric vehicle users with dedicated charging points, and actively preserving biodiversity near its terminals. LeShuttle is also a major contributor to cross-Channel mobility, helping millions of passengers and businesses move efficiently between the two countries every year.

LeShuttle Check-In & Boarding
Arrival Time
Plan to arrive at the terminal in Folkestone or Calais at least 1 hour before departure. Upon arrival, follow the signs to the check-in lanes.
Check-In Process
Use the self-service touch-screen booths by entering your booking reference or payment card. Alternatively, you can check in at a manned kiosk by providing your booking details. After check-in, you’ll receive a hanger to place on your rear-view mirror. This letter indicates your departure and will appear on display boards throughout the terminal.
eTicket Options
LeShuttle supports eTickets and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) for faster check-in. A paper ticket is not needed, and web check-in is not available.
Terminal Facilities
Before boarding, you can park and visit the terminal. Facilities include duty-free shopping, food outlets, restrooms, and pet reception areas. EV drivers will find charging points in the car park. You can track your departure time on blue display boards or the LeShuttle app.
Boarding
Boarding begins 25 minutes before departure. You’ll be called to return to your vehicle when your hanger letter shows as “Ready to Board.” Follow the signs marked ‘France’ (Folkestone) or ‘UK’ (Calais) and drive toward your assigned slip lane. Staff will guide you onto the shuttle.
- Medium & Small vehicles: double-deck carriages
- Large vehicles: single-deck carriages
Onboard the Shuttle
You’ll stay inside your vehicle during the 35-minute crossing, with the option to step out and stretch your legs. It’s recommended to use facilities and have with you some refreshments before boarding.
Arrival
Once the shuttle reaches your destination, simply drive off and continue your journey — there are no additional border checks. The motorway is just minutes away, giving you a quick start to the next part of your trip.
What to Bring
Make sure you have the booking reference that you received from us, a valid ID or passport, and any required documents for driving in France, including a Crit’Air sticker if needed for low-emission zones.

Inside the terminals, you will find accessible shops, food outlets, low-level telephones, and spacious restroom facilities. The Folkestone terminal also features a fully equipped Changing Places facility with an adjustable bed, hoist, and shower, available free of charge. For passengers who need a calm environment, quiet rooms are available on request at both terminals.

For the best experience, it is recommended to check in between 1 and 2 hours before your scheduled departure.

Crossing the Channel without a Vehicle
You cannot travel as a foot passenger on LeShuttle. Travel is exclusively for vehicles, so you must be travelling by car, motorbike, campervan, or similar. A separate bicycle service is available for cyclists.

Travelling with Your Bicycle on LeShuttle
Planning a cycling trip to France or UK? LeShuttle offers a dedicated service for cyclists, making it easy to cross the Channel with your bike. Cyclists are transported along with their bicycles in a spacious, adapted minibus operating between Holiday Inn Express Folkestone and the CIFFCO building near Cité Europe in Calais.
The service costs €60 (£50) per person with a bike, and child seats are free when attached to a parent’s bicycle. Just make sure to inform our customer support team at least 10 working days in advance. Once booked, you will be collected, transferred through the Channel Tunnel, and dropped off on the other side ready to continue your adventure.

LeShuttle Pet Policy
LeShuttle is happy to welcome your pets on board, making sure both you and your furry friends have a comfortable and enjoyable trip. Here’s what you need to know when traveling with animals:
- Pets must stay with you inside your vehicle for the entire 35-minute Channel Tunnel crossing.
- Dogs, cats, and ferrets must have a microchip, a valid Animal Health Certificate or EU Pet Passport, and an up-to-date rabies vaccination.
- Dogs travelling from Calais to Folkestone also require a tapeworm treatment given between 1 to 5 days before travel.
- All pet check-ins take place at the dedicated Pet Reception, available 24/7 at both Folkestone and Calais terminals. Follow the paw prints to find it easily.
- Check-in your pet at least 1 hour (and no more than 2 hours) before your scheduled departure, bringing along your booking reference.
- Both terminals feature pet exercise areas, with artificial grass and free waste bags, giving your pet a chance to stretch before boarding.
- Other small animals, like rabbits, rodents, reptiles, or birds, will need a veterinary certificate and will be inspected directly by border agents without visiting the Pet Reception.
Make sure to prepare all necessary documents in advance and keep your pet comfortable with water, snacks, and familiar items during the journey.

Guiding Principles
LeShuttle is dedicated to providing a fast, reliable, and environmentally responsible way to travel between the UK and France. As part of the Getlink Group, LeShuttle plays a key role in one of Europe’s leading low-carbon transport networks, helping millions of passengers cross the Channel each year.
Sustainability is more than a goal — it is central to every decision. LeShuttle emits up to 52 times less CO₂ than ferry travel and already runs on 75% renewable electricity. Through ongoing initiatives, such as electrifying maintenance vehicles, optimizing shuttle capacity, and expanding EV charging at terminals, the service actively reduces its environmental footprint.
Looking ahead, LeShuttle is fully aligned with Getlink’s climate strategy, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 30% by 2025, 54% by 2030, and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Passengers contribute to this effort simply by choosing to travel through the Channel Tunnel. Conservation projects, including the Samphire Hoe Nature Reserve and protected areas in France, further reflect LeShuttle’s commitment to protecting the ecosystems surrounding its infrastructure.
At the heart of LeShuttle’s mission is the promise to keep evolving — offering passengers a combination of low-carbon, high-quality, and forward-looking travel.
