Skyros Shipping Company (SNE) was founded in the early 1980s in Skyros with the support of the island’s inhabitants. The company is community-based, with the main shareholders being the Municipality of Skyros, the Region of Central Greece, and the Monastery of St. George. SNE is a significant factor for the development and economic enhancement of the island, offering reliable maritime transport and strengthening the local community and economy.
SNE offers regular routes between Kymi and Skyros, with daily schedules during the winter and two or three daily schedules during the summer.
The fleet of SNE includes the ship Achilleas, which was built in Japan in 1987 and fully refurbished in Greece in 2004. This ship replaced the vessel Lykomidis in 2005. Achilleas is larger, faster, and has greater capacity for passengers and vehicles. It features two tourist lounges and one distinguished lounge, as well as three bars, one of which is outdoor, on the main deck.
Passengers can enjoy comfortable seating, air-conditioned lounges, snack bars, and free Wi-Fi. The company’s ships are equipped with spacious garages to accommodate all types of vehicles, as well as special areas for passengers traveling with pets.
SNE is dedicated to providing accessible travel options for all passengers, including those with disabilities. The ships are equipped with facilities to support passengers with mobility challenges, ensuring a comfortable and safe journey for everyone.
SNE places great emphasis on excellent customer service, offering support from booking to disembarkation. The customer service team is available to assist with reservations, travel inquiries, and special requests, ensuring a smooth and pleasant experience for all passengers.
SNE collaborates with various travel agencies and tourism operators to offer comprehensive travel solutions that contribute to the development of Skyros and surrounding areas.
Skyros Shipping Company was awarded the bronze TOURISM AWARD in 2018 for its work, successful course, and contribution as a development pillar for Skyros. This distinction recognizes the company’s significant contribution to promoting tourism and strengthening the local economy, confirming its dedication to providing quality services and regional development.
Skyros Shipping Company was founded in 1980 under particularly adverse conditions and became a reality after tremendous efforts, based on the vision of a group of people who moved forward and were followed by almost the entire population of Skyros. It is the lifeline of the island with the mainland, a pillar and lever of development for the island, expressing the confidence and pride of the people of Skyros, providing a sense of security and assistance to every resident. It operates a ship that only rarely (mainly due to weather conditions) ceases its voyages.
SNE has a human-centric character, and its initiatives are always oriented in this direction. As a primarily Skyrian company, it strives to return the majority of its annual turnover to those who have supported and continue to support it: the people of Skyros. SNE offers professional opportunities and the future for the capable youth of Skyros, creating a new generation of sailors. Over 90% of the crew consists of young people from the island, resulting in approximately 50 families relying solely on employment on the ship. SNE prioritizes supporting as many Skyrian businesses and suppliers as possible. During the severe economic crisis the country is experiencing, SNE provides food vouchers to about 40 needy families during the Christmas period. It is the major sponsor and supporter of the Skyros Athletic Club and its academies, promoting sportsmanship among the island’s youth. It also supports all athletic and social clubs on the island and beyond, including the Skyros Shooting Club, Taekwondo Club “Pelasgoi,” Skyros Nautical Club, Traditional Dance Club (SSOPPA), Skyros Cycling Club, The Smile of the Child, SOS Children’s Villages, and more. SNE supports the Municipality of Skyros in all its social and athletic events and all charitable services based on the island, such as the Multipurpose Regional Clinic of Skyros, the Police Station, the Nursing Home, the Fire Department, and the island’s schools. Additionally, SNE occasionally helps needy fellow citizens with health issues affecting them or their children.
