In antiquity, Karystos was an independent city-state known as Carystus. The area was exposed to invasions and battles from nearby states, keen to exploit its rich resources and useful geographic location. Since then, the town has seen a booming medieval history, the remnants of which are still visible today. A vibrant trading hub, the Venetians built castles and fortresses around the pine-clad hillsides that line the town which today make for some truly enchanting historical excursions. Upon arrival at this buzzing town, take time to enjoy its authentic character, stunning beaches, and the surrounding nature of South Evia.
