Mantoudi is a small and serene village on the north-central side of the island of Evia. Consequently, there’s a lack of tourism infrastructure, but don’t let that discourage you. You’ll find the main town 5 km away from its port, where there are a host of traditional restaurants, taverns, and churches dotted around. Stroll through the winding streets and take in the warm atmosphere of a true Greek village, then set out and begin your explorations of the rest of Evia.

Much like the rest of the region, Mantoudi has a rich and varied history. Influences from Venetian, Byzantine, and Ottoman rule have shaped the culture of Evia, coveted throughout history for its rolling green mountains and fertile land. Mantoudi thrived under Byzantine rule but has since retreated to become a peaceful haven for locals. Its close proximity to the stunning coastline means it’s a favorite for the summer months, with the nearby River Voudoros running straight into the Aegean. Routes and Ferries to Mantoudi

You can get to Mantoudi from the main port of Skopelos (1.3 hrs) or from Glossa (2.15 hrs). You can also arrange ferry tickets to Mantoudi from mainland Greece from the ports of Glyfa (4.3 hrs) or Thessaloniki (5.45 hrs). If traveling from Athens, it’s best to either drive or take a bus (3 hrs. approx) to the island of Evia and transfer to local transport.
 

Port of Mantoudi

The port of Mantoudi lies 4 km away from the main town, accessible by a short drive or 55-minute walk. There are few amenities near the port itself and after disembarking from your ferry, you can make your way up to the town for dining and exploring. Alternatively, it’s well worth heading for the nearby beach, which is a quintessential slice of Evian coastline. Rough and dramatic, the pebbled seaside spot makes for an excellent day trip and it is particularly popular in the summertime.
 

Best Beaches

Evia is famous for its beaches, and Mantoudi’s central position means it’s close to some of the best. White sand, small pebbles, and the fresh turquoise waters of the Aegean make for a heavenly coastline. Mantoudi/Kymasi Beach

Mantoudi Beach, also known as Kymasi, can be found near the Port of Mantoudi. Only 4 km from town, the beach area of Mantoudi is stunning and surrounded by a rocky outcrop. Upon arrival, you’ll find pristine waters, white sand, and no tourist facilities, making it just perfect for a peaceful day at the beach only moments away from the village.

Agia Anna Beach

One of the closest developed beaches to Mantoudi, Agia Anna Beach is a stunning seaside resort looking out onto the Aegean. Explore the Village

The village of Mantoudi is very much a local affair, but there’s still a lot to explore for the intrepid traveler. Wander through the streets of the old town and get a feeling for the everyday life of its residents. The river runs right through the center, making for rustic strolls across its banks and bridges. The Church of St. George is a short walk out of town and is well worth a visit for its beautiful traditional architecture. Alternatively, you can spend a night in the fascinating Monastery of Galataki. In the evening, the town taverns are filled with warmth and laughter, and the locals are keen to share their personal range of traditional Greek cuisine and famous Evian seafood. While Mantoudi can easily be explored in a day, its solid range of accommodation options makes it an ideal base for the rest of your travels.

Visit the Holy Shrine of St. John the Russian

One of the most venerated figures in the Orthodox Church, St. John the Russian has a stunning church dedicated to him in the nearby town of Prokopi. Only a 10-minute drive from Mantoudi, enter this intricately designed and imposing shrine, complete with vividly painted ceilings and a serene atmosphere. Afterward, explore the streets of this hillside village and head back to Mantoudi for some rest.

Kitesurfing in Pefki

A 60 km drive north of Mantoudi will take you to Pefki, a seaside resort famous for a thriving watersports culture. Drimona Waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the island and only a 35 km drive from Mantoudi. En route, you can stop off at the seaside town of Lymi for refreshments, then head up to the verdant mountains. Drimona is a towering natural wonder with fresh spring water and dewy pine trees. You can jump on a rustic wooden swing and fly above the cooling natural pools before taking a refreshing dip in the divine Evian nature.

Wine Tasting

Evia is famous for its wine, and for good reason. The fertile lands and favorable weather make for excellent vineyards, and there are a host of independent and large-scale wineries available for visiting. The famous Vriniotis Winery is a 68 km drive away from the village and offers visitors regular tastings. Alternatively, explore the hillsides surrounding Mantoudi and learn about the ancient tradition of Greek wine-making.
 

Transportation Around Mantoudi

Evia is a well-connected island with a host of reliable public and private transportation options on offer. The KTEL public bus route connects Mantoudi to other towns and beaches on the island. In addition, cars, motorbikes, and bikes can be rented for exploring the island. Evia has some good taxi services but it’s worth booking in advance for longer trips.
